Job summary

Western Illinois University on the Macomb campus seeks a Building Operating Engineer to perform skilled maintenance, repair, and minor installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, and related equipment. The role requires HVAC experience, EPA 608 certification, and at least three years in building mechanical maintenance.

Eligible candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent; an Associate's degree in HVAC may substitute for experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Building Operating Engineers perform skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and minor installation of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, electrical, mechanical, laundry equipment, kitchen equipment, and other related equipment.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years (36 months) of full-time employment in the

maintenance of building mechanical equipment and/or as a mechanic of refrigeration, ventilation, and/or food-service equipment.

  • Demonstrated experience as an HVAC mechanic. An Associate's degree

or equivalent in HVAC may be substituted for the demonstrated experience.

  • A Refrigerant Certification for recovery and recycling of equipment (EPA section 608 Technician Certification) is required.
  • Pre-graduation applicants are welcome to apply. In order to be considered for employment, the degree must be conferred at the time of application, unless applicant is in the final semester of a degree program; if so, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body).*
