Job summary

City of Navasota, TX is seeking a Building Official to oversee permitting, plan review, and field inspections. You will administer adopted codes, review residential and commercial plans, supervise staff, and provide technical guidance to applicants and contractors.

You will coordinate with the Fire Department and other city departments to ensure compliant, timely service delivery and will lead enforcement actions and code interpretations as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of relevant experience in building inspections, plans examination, or building code administration.
• Requires ICC inspector and plans examiner certifications; ability to obtain additional ICC certifications within 12 months of hire.
• A bachelor's degree and ICC credentials are preferred; five years of related building official experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Directs and conducts residential and commercial building plan reviews for code compliance and communicates required corrections.
• Conducts or oversees inspections of structural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and other building systems per applicable codes.
• Reviews permit applications for completeness and coordination with review requirements.
• Coordinates with Fire Department, Planning, Public Works, and other departments on code enforcement and development requirements.
• Monitors code updates and recommends adoptions and amendments.
• Assists with safety notices, violations, and enforcement actions related to building codes.

Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction science, business, or related field

ICC Certified Building Official (CBO) designation

Five years of related building official, plans examination, inspection experience

ICC Combination Residential and Commercial Inspector certification

ICC Combination Residential and Commercial Plans Examiner certification

Texas Plumbing Inspector License (Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners)
