Job summary

City of Fredericksburg, Virginia is seeking a Building Official to administer the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the Virginia Property Maintenance Code under general supervision.

You will manage plan reviews, conduct complex inspections, supervise inspectors and permit technicians, and enforce city ordinances, nuisance rules, and code compliance.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; six years of building inspections and plan reviews for code compliance or equivalent.
• Experience managing building inspection staff is preferred.
• Certification from the Virginia DHCD as Building Official and Property Maintenance Official is required.

Responsibilities

• Administer building and property maintenance codes under supervision.
• Plan, assign, and supervise inspections and plan reviews.
• Oversee staff of inspectors and permit technicians; provide guidance and training.
• Investigate complaints, issue notices of violation, and enforce city ordinances.
