Job summary

The City of North Sioux City is seeking a service-oriented professional to serve as Building Official / Code Enforcement Officer. This full-time role administers the city’s building-permit, plan-review, inspection, certificate-of-occupancy, property-maintenance, nuisance, and zoning-enforcement functions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; valid driver’s license.
• Three years of construction, inspection, plan-review, code-enforcement, or zoning experience preferred.
• Equivalent education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Review residential and commercial plans for code compliance.
• Issue permits, correction notices, stop-work orders, citations, and occupancy certificates.
• Conduct foundation, framing, final, change-of-occupancy, and complaint-based inspections.
• Investigate nuisances, unpermitted work, zoning complaints, and property-maintenance violations.
• Maintain records and explain requirements to applicants and the public.
