Job summary

The University of Houston System seeks a Facilities Maintenance Specialist to maintain, repair, and operate EMECS and other HVAC control systems across campus. You will troubleshoot controllers, recommission systems, and perform preventative maintenance while ensuringSecurity and infrastructure integrity.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, 3 years of related experience, and a Texas driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Security background checks for UH System positions.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to repair calls across campus facilities.
  • Inspects and calibrates building environmental controls (digital/pneumatic).
  • Checks operation of thermostats, ducts, motors, controllers, and sensors.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on building control systems.
  • Recommissions controllers using proprietary software.
  • Maintains communication with customers and supervisors.
  • Updates diagrams to reflect renovations.
  • Inspects and repairs ductwork, valves, actuators and switches.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Department: Facilities Operations forSS

Description

Maintains, repairs and operates Energy Management EnvironmentalControl System (EMECS) Network and other independent heating,ventilation and air conditioning control systems. Troubleshoots andrecommissions controllers. Pursuant to the State of Texas ExecutiveOrder No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has accessto critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain thesecurity or integrity of the University infrastructure. Thisposition requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determinewhether or not criminal history or continuous connections for thegovernment or political apparatus of a foreign adversary mightprevent the employee from being able to maintain the security orintegrity of the infrastructure.

  • 1. Responds to calls for repairs in buildings throughout campus.
  • 2. Inspects, repairs, and calibrates building digital andpneumatic environmental controls.
  • 3. Checks equipment for proper operation, including thermostats,ductwork, filters, motors, controllers, and compressors.Troubleshoots controllers, network systems, and fiber opticwiring.
  • 4. Performs preventative maintenance on building controlsystems.
  • 5. Repairs and replaces valves, actuators, sensors, thermostats,dampers and switches.
  • 6. Re-commissions controllers using proprietary software.
  • 7. May answer telephones and enter work requests in departmentdatabase.
  • 8. Maintains communication between customers, technicians, workcontrol, and supervisor.
  • 9. Updates workstation graphic diagrams to reflect most currentrenovations.
  • 10. Performs other duties as assigned.

- Department is willing to accept education in lieu ofexperience.

MQ: Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles,procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area ortrade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months ofeducation or training beyond the high school level. Vocationalcompetence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipmentmay be required. Education verification will be conducted uponacceptance of an employment offer.

Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directlyjob-related experience.

Certification/Licensing: Requires a valid Texas Driver'sLicense.
