Job summary

Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is seeking a Building Maintenance Worker II to support 35+ county buildings. The job covers painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and HVAC maintenance with a Monday–Friday 7:30 am–4:00 pm schedule and periodic on-call duties.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience as Building Maintenance Worker I or similar duties.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance (painting, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, electrical).
  • Inspects lights, wiring, breakers; makes necessary repairs.
  • Inspects HVAC systems; performs related maintenance.
  • Assists in carpentry and building tasks for County facilities.
  • Repairs and builds furniture, cabinets, and wood fixtures.
  • Uses woodworking machinery for finishes and builds.
  • Builds rough structures like barricades and fences; rough carpentry.
  • Finishes cabinets and countertops; installs tile and carpet.
  • Repairs doors, windows, floors, lockers, gates, roofs, ceilings.
  • Prepares surfaces for painting; applies paint or stain.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing systems and fixtures; unclogs drains.
  • Installs sprinkler systems, hoses, valves, and lines.
  • Operates and maintains tools; maintains landscaped areas.

Overview

Join our Building Maintenance team and help keep more than 35 Larimer County buildings running smoothly. Our team of 11 handles a wide variety of repairs, including drywall, flooring, furniture, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical work, so no two days are exactly alike. You'll have the tools and support you need to get the job done.

Join our Building Maintenance team and help keep more than 35 Larimer County buildings running smoothly. Our team of 11 handles a wide variety of repairs, including drywall, flooring, furniture, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical work, so no two days are exactly alike. You'll have the tools and support you need to get the job done.

The work is varied and includes repairs involving drywall, flooring, furniture, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical. No two days are the same, and you'll have the tools and equipment needed to get the job done. A typical day starts at the shop at 7:30 am to check in with the team, review priorities, and pick up work tickets before heading out to complete them.

The regular schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, with an on-call rotation for 24 hours a day for 7 days every 3 months.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing:

  • Performs semi-skilled and skilled work involving painting, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Inspects and ensures that all lights, fixtures, ballasts and wiring, breaker boxes, and electrical switches and controls are in working order; makes any necessary repairs.
  • Inspects heating and air conditioning systems and related equipment for proper functioning; performs related maintenance tasks as required.
  • Assists in a variety of carpentry and building tasks for County facilities.
  • Repairs, installs, and constructs tables, shelves, cabinets, countertops, and other wood equipment and fixtures.
  • Performs hand and bench work, operating planers, drill presses, power saws, and other woodworking machinery.
  • Builds rough wooden structures such as barricades and fences and performs rough carpentry on park and other County buildings.
  • Finishes cabinets and countertops as required.
  • Installs tile and carpet as necessary.
  • Makes repairs on doors, windows, floors, lockers, gates, roofs, and ceilings.
  • Prepares surfaces for painting, staining, or retexturing.
  • Applies paint to building interiors, fixtures, equipment, or exteriors; strips and paints or stains cabinets, doors, and woodwork.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems and a variety of plumbing fixtures such as faucets, sinks, toilets, and water heaters.
  • Unclogs drains and toilets.
  • Installs sprinkler systems, hoses, valves, and lines.
  • Operates, maintains, adjusts, and repairs equipment and tools necessary for performing maintenance tasks.
  • Maintains landscaped areas as assigned.

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Building Maintenance Worker I, in a directly related field, or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
