Position Summary:

The person in this position will perform journey-level work in the maintenance, repair, and alteration of buildings, offices, houses, and other City facilities. Assignments could involve numerous trades and skills, such as rough and finished carpentry, plumbing, roofing, and painting. A high degree of competence in several trades is expected, with more than one at or above the acceptable skilled level. Assignments are varied and received in the form of oral or written work orders. Work is performed primarily independently, with incumbents responsible for determining appropriate work methods, tools, and materials, following general or specific instructions from the Public Works Director or his designee, who inspects work during and after completion.

Responsibilities include:

• Performing skilled work in maintenance, repair, alteration, and remodeling of buildings and facilities.
• Installing flooring, cabinetry, doors, windows, and performing carpentry tasks.
• Performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs on HVAC and cooling systems.
• Roof repairs, including replacing and sealing leaks.
• Repairing doors, locks, window frames, and wooden furniture.
• Painting and plastering surfaces inside and outside buildings.
• Electrical repairs such as replacing fixtures, outlets, and switches.
• Routine welding and HVAC maintenance.
• Estimating and ordering materials, cleaning work areas, and collaborating with staff to meet standards.
• Continuously improving operations and work processes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of use and care of hand tools and power equipment used in maintenance.
• Knowledge of building maintenance practices, methods, and materials.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
