Job summary

Manitowoc County is seeking a dependable Building Maintenance Worker to support the upkeep of County properties. The role involves maintaining building systems, grounds, and custodial tasks to keep facilities safe, clean, and functional.

A valid Wisconsin driver's license is required. Responsibilities include troubleshooting electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and control systems, carpentry, and coordinating with contractors for on-site work, with occasional snow clearing and seasonal grounds duties.

Building Maintenance Worker

The County is seeking a dependable and skilled Building Maintenance Worker to assist with the maintenance, operation, and upkeep of County properties. This position performs a variety of building, equipment, grounds, and custodial maintenance duties while helping ensure County facilities remain safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Building & Equipment Maintenance
  • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on electrical components, plumbing, HVAC equipment, locks, control systems, and other building systems.
  • Perform carpentry, painting, and furniture assembly.
  • Coordinate and assist with office moves.
  • Replace light bulbs, ballasts, switches, receptacles, and related components.
  • Preventative Maintenance
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on operating equipment and building systems.
  • Inspect equipment and systems and document maintenance activities and results.
  • Help identify potential maintenance issues before they become costly repairs.
  • Contractor Coordination
  • Coordinate and monitor the on-site work of outside contractors.
  • Help ensure contracted work is completed safely, properly, and according to County expectations.
  • Grounds & Seasonal Maintenance
  • Perform seasonal grounds duties, including snow plowing, snow shoveling, grass cutting, trimming, and weeding.
  • Perform routine maintenance and upkeep of grounds equipment.
  • Custodial Services
  • Clean and sanitize surfaces throughout County facilities.
  • Perform wet mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning of furniture and windows.
  • Remove trash and recycling.
  • Perform specialized project work, including floor stripping, sealing and refinishing, as well as carpet cleaning and extraction.
  • Security Inspections
  • Participate in rotating weekend security inspections with other department employees.
  • Check doors and building security, inspect mechanical rooms, turn off room lights, and identify potential facility concerns.

Requirements
