Job summary

Mittera is seeking a Maintenance Technician at its Urbandale, IA facility. You will work hands-on with printing presses, saddles, trimmers, conveyors, HVAC and finishing equipment to keep the plant running smoothly. Emphasis on preventative maintenance and quick repairs to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

• Experience with maintenance on industrial equipment is required.

Responsibilities

• Observe equipment operation to diagnose malfunctions and determine needed repairs.
• Study blueprints and machine parts to plan maintenance.
• Disassemble machinery to access defective parts and replace them.
• Install and test repairs to ensure proper operation.
• Coordinate maintenance with the manager and production operators.

Mittera is hiring a Maintenance Technician for our Urbandale, Iowa facility. If you're the person who gets called first when a machine goes down — and the one who figures out how to keep it from happening again — we want to talk to you.

You'll work hands-on with printing presses, saddle stitchers, trimmers, cutters, folders, conveyor systems, HVAC, compressed air systems, and the binding/finishing and prepress equipment that keeps our production floor running. This is a role for someone who takes pride in a well-maintained machine and a well-run shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Observes mechanical devices, equipment and machinery in operation and listens to their sounds to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for adjustment, repair or replacement
• Studies blueprints, sketches, machine parts or specifications
• Dismantles machinery or equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts.
• Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections
• Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements
• Adjusts functional parts or devices and control instruments
• Repairs or replaces defective parts
• Installs special functional and structural parts in devices
• Assembles and test operates machinery and equipment to verify correction of malfunction
• Coordinates with manager and assists with production operator's timely preventative maintenance and predictive parts replacement and repair
• Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts
• Repairs electrical equipment or replaces faulty wiring, switches, or relays, as qualified to perform
• Coordinates for outside services when needed
• Initiates purchase orders for parts, repairs or replacement equipment or pieces
• Monitors paper recycling operations. Does minor repairs and coordinates outside service with manager for major repairs and operation malfunctions.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable OSHA and EPA federal and state rules, regulations, policies and guidelines and company safety rules in the plant
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities

• One-year certificate from college or technical school and three to five years of related experience and/or training or any equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions and decimals.
• Demonstrated skills in leadership, organization and communication are necessary
• Ability to anticipate problems and implement appropriate preventative measures
• Ability to develop new techniques for work processes
• Must be able to give technical direction to others and project leadership over multiple safety teams
• Ability to redirect to issues as they emerge and reprioritize based on current business conditions
• Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to multi-task

Physical Requirements

• Requires use of proper body mechanics with pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling and bending
• Pushing/pulling and lifting up to 50 lbs
• Requires fine motor hand and arm movement, manual dexterity and coordination
• Requires near visual acuity
• Requires working around and operating departmental equipment
• Must be able to access and navigate each department in the facility
• Requires the ability to function in a professional manner under stressful circumstances
