Job summary

Mittera Creative + Tech in Wisconsin is seeking a first-shift maintenance lead for web press operations. You will oversee preventive maintenance, perform troubleshooting, and coordinate repairs across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and auxiliary systems to maximize press availability and print quality.

You will supervise a team of technicians, ensure safety protocols, track work orders, and support installations and upgrades.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably supporting web offset or printing equipment.
  • One or more years of lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, manuals, and equipment documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, planning, organization, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Availability to work first shift and adjust hours as production or emergency maintenance needs require.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to operate computerized maintenance management systems and standard business software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead first-shift maintenance activities for web presses and related production equipment.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns, diagnose root causes, and coordinate safe, effective repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Develop, schedule, and verify preventive and predictive maintenance for presses, dryers, chill systems, folders, splicers, conveyors, pumps, motors, drives, and related equipment.
  • Partner with press operators and production leaders to resolve recurring mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and print-process issues.
  • Ensure lockout/tagout, machine guarding, hot-work, confined-space, and other applicable safety procedures are followed.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, inspection records, parts usage, downtime data, and shift handoff notes.
  • Monitor critical spare-parts inventory and coordinate purchases, vendor service, and outside repairs.
  • Support equipment installations, rebuilds, upgrades, and continuous-improvement projects.
  • Communicate equipment status, risks, completed work, and priorities to production and maintenance leadership.
  • Provide emergency maintenance support outside scheduled hours when required.

Description

Leads first-shift maintenance support for web press operations. Provides hands‑on technical support for web presses and related mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, conveying, drying, and auxiliary systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directs, trains, coaches, and schedules first-shift maintenance technicians supporting web press operations
  • Assigns daily work, prioritizes production-related repairs, and verifies timely completion and documentation
  • Provides ongoing feedback, skills development, and performance evaluations
  • Supports hiring and administers corrective action in accordance with company policy

Required Skills and Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree, apprenticeship, or industrial maintenance certification preferred
  • Three to five years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably supporting web offset, heatset, or commercial printing equipment
  • One or more years of lead or supervisory experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of mechanical power transmission, electrical controls, motors and drives, pneumatics, hydraulics, lubrication, and preventive maintenance
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, manuals, and equipment documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting, planning, organization, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to use computerized maintenance management systems, email, spreadsheets, and standard business software
  • Availability to work first shift and adjust hours as production or emergency maintenance needs require
  • Commitment to safe work practices, housekeeping, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation

  • Requires use of proper body mechanics with pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling and bending
