Job summary

Appalachian Power Co. in Grundy, VA seeks a Building Maintenance Technician B to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building systems.

The role includes installation, repair, and operation of related equipment while ensuring safety and code compliance. Responsibilities cover drywall, painting, carpentry, site upkeep and coordination with contractors; maintain records and reports.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum two years as Building Maintenance Technician B or three years in HVAC/electrical/plumbing/carpentry.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license and complete CAST test.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative/predictive maintenance, repair, installation and operation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and related building systems.
• Conduct general building maintenance such as drywall, painting, ceilings, roofing and related items.
• Coordinate with contractors and communicate effectively to ensure contract terms and safety policies are followed.
• Assist with housekeeping, inventory management and basic site improvements as needed.
• Maintain records and submit inspection documentation and reports.

Job Posting End Date10-09-2026Please note the job posting will close on the day before the posting end dateJob SummaryUnder limited supervision perform skilled work involving the operation, maintenance, repair, alteration and additions to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical building systems, building furnishings and site improvements.Job DescriptionWhat You'll Do:1) Perform preventative/predictive maintenance on, troubleshoot, repair, install and operate various types of HVAC-related equipment, emergency generators, and general building mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment and systems in accordance with industry standards and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building codes.2) Perform general building maintenance and repair related to drywall, masonry, painting, ceilings, roofing, tile, carpets, windows and other related items.3) Monitor the work of, communicate effectively with, and/or assist others, including contractors, engaged in maintenance, construction and operation activities. Ensure work is completed in compliance with contract terms and conditions and in accordance with company safety, security, environmental and conduct rules.4) Perform general housekeeping duties as required, such as, assemble, move, repair, hang and adjust furniture, wall hangings, doors, windows and other office items, assist in snow removal, storm damage cleanup, lawn maintenance, spill cleanup, inventory management.5) Procure necessary quality parts and material in the most economical and accepted manner.6) Maintain records, including inspection documentation, and submit reports as required..What You'll Need:Education requirements are listed below: High school diploma or GED required.Work Experience requirement listed below: Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Building Maintenance Technician B or at least three (3) years equivalent experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing or carpentry.Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers' license. Must be willing to pursue the certification.2) Overtime required. Overnight travel may be required. In addition, scheduled as well as unscheduled, weekend and evening shift work may be required.
