Responsibilities

  • Carpentry work in renovation, alteration, and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, partitions, doors, windows, and wooden fixtures; installs hardware on doors, windows, and furniture; glazes windows and doors.
  • Installs new plumbing equipment, fixtures and parts.
  • Replaces lamps, ballasts, switches, receptacles, dimmers, etc.
  • Paints interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Repairs and installs plaster and sheetrock.
  • Installs tile and carpet.
  • Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs, ramps, and decks.
  • Provides direction to contractors performing skilled maintenance and renovation duties.
  • Diagnoses building maintenance and repair needs.
  • Performs related duties.

Job description

This position performs specialized duties in the maintenance and repair of Borough buildings.

Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.

This position may be called in to provide support outside regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.L1 - L5 - DOE

High School diploma or equivalent.

Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the occupational field, sufficient to understand the major duties of the position, and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems.

Relevant experience may include: Maintenance of building interiors and exteriors, performing minor carpentry, drywall repair, painting, flooring repairs, and general upkeep. Preventive and corrective maintenance on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, locks, and fixtures, basic plumbing repairs such as repairing leaks, replacing faucets, unclogging drains, and maintaining restroom facilities, keeping accurate maintenance logs, work order documentation, and inventories of tools, equipment, and supplies. Ability to work independently, safely, and professionally, with demonstrated experience interpreting and adhering to standard operating procedures.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Must be at least 19 years of age with one (1) year of driving experience.

Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, and respond to emergency calls.
