Job summary

Merrimack College is seeking a Building Maintenance worker for the night shift to perform journeyman level repairs across campus facilities. Under supervision, you will handle electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and locksmith tasks to keep buildings safe and functional.

The role requires reading blueprints, maintaining logbooks, and responding to routine and emergency requests during evenings and weekends. A valid driver's license and a hoisting license (or willingness to obtain) are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Five years related building maintenance experience.
• General knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and locksmith trades.
• Ability to read blueprints and maintain accurate logbooks.
• Valid driver's license.
• Valid hoisting license or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Perform minor plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building repairs.
• Respond to routine and emergency maintenance requests during evenings and weekends.
• Assist with snow and ice removal, grounds maintenance, deliveries, and event setup.
• Monitor, inspect, and reset building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, lighting, and electrical.
• Maintain campus buildings' appearance and functionality; provide custodial support as needed.
• Identify maintenance deficiencies and initiate work orders or notify supervisors.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment following safety procedures.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities and Grounds Manager, the Building Maintenance worker will perform journeyman levels of various building trades, and other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform minor plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building repairs to campus facilities, equipment, fixtures, and furnishings.
• Respond to routine and emergency maintenance requests generated by supervisors, the work order system, and the Merrimack College Police Department during regular business hours, evenings, weekends, and other assigned shifts.
• Assist with snow and ice removal, grounds maintenance, furniture and equipment deliveries, and event setup and breakdown as needed.
• Monitor, inspect, and reset building systems and components, including fire alarm systems, HVAC controls, lighting, and electrical systems, to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Maintain the appearance and functionality of campus buildings by performing litter and graffiti removal, making minor repairs and adjustments, and providing custodial support as needed.
• Identify maintenance deficiencies and initiate work orders or notify supervisors of repairs requiring additional time, specialized trades, or outside services.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while following all applicable safety procedures, departmental policies, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support departmental and institutional operations.
