Job summary

Merrimack College is seeking a Building Maintenance Worker to perform journeyman-level repairs across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and locksmith trades on campus. This on-campus role supports residential life and facilities responsibilities in North Andover, MA.

Under supervision, you will respond to maintenance requests, assist with snow removal, event setup, and analyze blueprints while maintaining logs and adhering to OSHA safety standards in a Catholic Augustinian mission

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Five years related building maintenance.
  • General knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and locksmith trade.
  • Ability to read blueprints and maintain accurate logbooks as required.
  • Knowledge of power tools.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid hoisting license, or willing to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building repairs to campus facilities, equipment, fixtures, and furnishings.
  • Respond to routine and emergency maintenance requests generated by supervisors, the work order system, and the Merrimack College Police Department during regular business hours, evenings, weekends, and other assigned shifts.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal, grounds maintenance, furniture and equipment deliveries, and event setup and breakdown as needed.
  • Monitor, inspect, and reset building systems and components, including fire alarm systems, HVAC controls, lighting, and electrical systems, to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Maintain the appearance and functionality of campus buildings by performing litter and graffiti removal, making minor repairs and adjustments, and providing custodial support as needed.
  • Identify maintenance deficiencies and initiate work orders or notify supervisors of repairs requiring additional time, specialized trades, or outside services.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while following all applicable safety procedures, departmental policies, and OSHA regulations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support departmental and institutional operations.

Position Overview
