Job summary

The City of Deer Park is seeking a custodian to perform a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the care and maintenance of city buildings. Under close supervision, you will contribute to cleaning, minor repairs, and upkeep of facilities to ensure safe, clean spaces for the public.

Responsibilities include lighting maintenance, restroom sanitation, floor care, waste removal, equipment inspection, record keeping, and adherence to safety practices.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance; some knowledge of first aid and safety precautions
• Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment
• Ability to work independently, lift heavy objects, walk and stand long hours, communicate orally and in writing, follow instructions, and establish effective working relationships

Responsibilities

• Changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies; cleans spills; cleans drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures.
• Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dusts, shampoos, steam cleans, strips, waxes, polishes, and buffs floors, carpets and furniture.
• Cleans windows, walls, metal and woodwork.
• Picks up litter around buildings and grounds.
• Opens and closes facilities, locks and unlocks as needed.
• Keeps records of work completed.
• Maintains current skills and knowledge in proper and safe building maintenance techniques.
