Job summary

The County of El Dorado in Placerville, CA is hiring Building Inspector I/II/III in the Planning and Building Department. Under supervision, you will inspect residential and non-residential construction to ensure compliance with building, electrical, mechanical, and related codes, review plans, and issue permits.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and 2 years journey-level building trades experience or permit processing, plus ICC certificates.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of journey-level experience in the building trades, or processing permit applications and enforcing codes, or reviewing plans for compliance with regulations and codes.
• High school diploma or GED required; technical coursework in building inspection, engineering, architecture, construction technology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections for residential and non-residential permits to verify compliance with building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and related codes.
• Review and approve plans and permits; interpret codes and regulations for contractors and the public.
• Intake permit applications, calculate and collect fees, and maintain accurate records.
• Prepare reports, correction notices, and correspondence related to permits and inspections.
