Job summary

The City of Corpus Christi is seeking a Building Inspector I in Corpus Christi, TX. Under direct supervision, you will perform building inspections to ensure conformance with adopted codes and ordinances and communicate inspection results to contractors.

Responsibilities include field inspections, record-keeping in the IPS system, reviewing plans with senior inspectors, and attending training on new codes. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience in building inspections.
• ICC Residential Building Inspector certification within 12 months of hire.
• Valid driver’s license required; out-of-state candidates must obtain Texas license within 90 days.
• Criminal background check and physical exam required.

Responsibilities

• Performs field inspections of building components and ensures construction conforms to adopted codes and ordinances.
• Communicates inspection results with contractors and builders when clarification is requested.
• Maintains all records of inspections completed and logs of issues at inspection sites; uploads into IPS system of record.
• Under guidance of Inspector II and the Senior, reads and reviews plans for building inspectors.
• Attends training sessions related to the inspection division, including sessions on new codes and ordinances.
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
