Job summary

Carson City is seeking a full-time Building Inspector to enforce residential and non-residential codes in Carson City, Nevada. The role conducts inspections at various stages of construction and coordinates with City departments to ensure compliance with state and local regulations.

The inspector reviews plans and specifications, interprets city codes, issues notices of violations, and maintains thorough records.

Qualifications

• Principles, practices, codes and regulations related to building inspection.
• Procedures for documenting inspections, correcting violations and carrying through on court procedures as required.
• Interpreting construction plans, specifications and related documents.

Responsibilities

• Inspects residential and non-residential building construction, alterations, repairs and demolitions; ensures compliance with codes and regulations.
• Performs safety and structural evaluations of buildings following disasters and complaints.
• Notes deficiencies and deviations from plans; issues notices of code violations and/or may confer with the Building Official on more serious problems.
• Coordinates inspection activities with other City departments and agencies.
• Documents and maintains accurate records of inspections and prepares written reports and notices to correct code violations.
