Job summary

Carson City is seeking a Plans Examiner to review and coordinate construction documents for residential, commercial and industrial projects, ensuring compliance with state and local codes and regulations.

Under limited supervision, you will interpret building codes, confer with homeowners, builders and engineers, perform inspections as needed, enforce code requirements, and provide clear reports and notices to correct violations.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to an Associate Degree in engineering, construction technology or a related field and two (2) years of experience equivalent to the City's class of Plans Examiner.

Responsibilities

• Review construction documents for residential, commercial and industrial projects.
• Confer with homeowners, business owners, builders, engineers and architects to interpret building codes and regulations.
• Coordinate examinations with other City departments and units.
• Inspect building construction, alterations, repairs and demolitions to ensure compliance with codes.
• Prepare correspondence and notices to correct code violations.
