Job summary

The City of Shreveport is seeking an Inspector, Buildings to ensure that residential and commercial construction complies with the Comprehensive Building Code through inspection and information sharing. You will review plans, inspect sites, direct corrective actions, and maintain records.

Responsibilities include examining permits, coordinating with architects and contractors, and reporting findings using basic computer tools. Local travel is extensive.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum five years in construction or equivalent.
• Thorough knowledge of International Building and Residential Codes.
• Customer service skills and ability to gather/evaluate facts.
• Valid Louisiana driver's license with clean driving record.
• Ability to read/interpret plans and specifications.
• Basic computer skills and email literacy.
• Meet multiple deadlines in a stressful environment.
• Complete acceptable job-related certification within one year or upon offer.

Responsibilities

• Assist architects/contractors by examining plans and making conforming recommendations.
• Examine permit applications and accompanying plans and blueprints.
• Conduct on-site inspections of new installations, alterations, and repairs.
• Direct corrective actions or halt work to ensure code conformity.
• Record inspection results on specified forms.
• Investigate reports of unauthorized work and direct discontinuance.
• Approve applications upon final inspection if compliant.
• Maintain files and records; compile reports using basic computer programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
