The City of Lee’s Summit is seeking a qualified Building Inspector to perform technical inspections ensuring projects comply with adopted codes, ordinances and approved plans.

Under the Building Inspections Manager, you will read plans, enforce regulations, coordinate with developers and city staff, and document findings. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, five years in a construction-related field, a valid MO driver's license, and ICC B1/B2 certification within 12 months.

Under general direction of the Building Inspections Manager, the Building Inspector performs technical inspections to ensure projects are in compliance with adopted codes, ordinances and approved plans.

Pay rang $24.61-$31.52 per hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in construction related field required.
  • Valid State motor vehicle operator’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • ICC Building Inspector Certification (B1, B2) required within 12 months of employment. (probationary period extends until the minimum certifications are obtained)

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of codes, ordinances and standards regulating building construction, including building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, fuel gas accessibility codes and standards
  • Ability to effectively apply knowledge of codes and ordinances to construction projects
  • Demonstrated abilities in the area of written and oral communications
  • Ability to communicate, interact and function effectively under stressful and/or confrontational situations
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the development community, city staff and the public
  • Ability to analyze problems and identify workable solutions
  • Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications
