This position is designated as “mandatory”, and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent and you are expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.

Primary Purpose of Position

This position is the Building Environmental Services Senior Supervisor for Team 1 and will have additional ‘lead’ duties. This position will provide mentorship, evaluation coaching, and team building to Team 4. The Team 1 supervisor will assist with campus-wide training in OS1 processes, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and working with building liaisons to provide excellent customer service. This position also serves on the hiring committee for new BES technicians. This position is intended to be out in the field with limited office time.

In addition, this position is responsible for directing and overseeing personnel and procedures of all shifts of the Building Services unit during the standard Monday-Friday and on the weekend as building and programmatic needs dictate. The supervisor must ensure excellent customer service and accurate setups, personnel management, and APPA Level II quality cleaning while adhering to LEED Silver and GS 42, green cleaning standards.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED , and one year of experience in the area assigned; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

University Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from high school and five years experience in the area of work assigned, three of which were in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The University of North Carolina Charlotte Facilities Management department is seeking an outgoing and motivated person to join our staff as a Building Environmental Services Supervisor ( BES ).

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide supervision for multiple cleaning crews in the performance of duties in academic, administrative, and athletic facilities.
  • Assign and schedule work; establish individual workloads and assign personnel to specific work areas.
  • Train, counsel, and evaluate the performance of employees.
  • Prepare personnel action memorandums; interview and recommend personnel for filling vacant positions.
  • Approve leave and submit time cards in the Kronos timekeeping system and absentee lists to the supervisor.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and repair records; compile maintenance checklist and report needs to the supervisor.
  • Perform daily inspections and correct deficiencies.
  • Test and make recommendations on supply and equipment purchases.
  • To provide mentoring and staff performance updates to leadership team.
  • Conduct campus wide training following high-performance team cleaning metrics.
  • Working closely with leadership team on hiring process related to BES005.
Other Work Responsibilities
  • Enforce established Facilities Management, UNC Charlotte, and State policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate the proper use of and instruct team members in the proper use and care of all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in floor maintenance, custodial, recycling, event support, and exterior litter removal functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency, Five years’ experience in the area of work assigned, two of which were in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates Degree is preferred.
  • Ability to properly use and care for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in Building Environmental Services and floorcare functions.
  • Operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment to the position.
  • Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communications are required.
  • Computer knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs required.
  • Ability to effectively work/interact and to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
  • Strong attention to details needed for position.

  • Where applicable, must be eligible for required certification.
  • Valid driver’s license is required for position.
