Job summary

THOMPSON & LICHTNER CO INC THE is seeking professionals to conduct building envelope testing and related inspections onsite at iconic New England structures, including large-scale construction, historic buildings, and pre/post-construction projects. Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in construction engineering, building inspection services, or building envelope services.
  • Ability to compose professional reports on a timely basis with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Clean pre-employment background check (iCORI) and driving record requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and help perform specialized building envelope testing, weatherproofing, and inspection services for windows, curtain walls, storefronts and doors; include FM Global wind uplift tests and blower door tests.
  • Interpret and record findings, process reports, and interact with clients.
  • Assist the Director of Building Enclosure Services with daily reports, equipment calibration, and lab support as needed.

Position Duties:
  • Learn and help perform specialized building envelope testing, weatherproofing and inspection services, and forensic services, window, curtain wall, storefront, and door testing, FM Global wind uplift test, smoke test, electronic leak detection tests, blower door tests, and other building envelope testing and inspections.
  • Is responsible for interpreting and recording findings, processing reports, and interfacing with clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Building Enclosure Services, such as daily reports, calibrating and maintaining equipment and assisting in the Construction Materials Testing Lab when needed.
Requirements:
  • Engineering degree in Civil Engineering
  • Preferred minimum of 3 years of experience in construction engineering, building inspection services, or building envelope services
  • Ability to compose professional reports on a timely basis with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn and share knowledge
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with problem solving, organizational, and time management skills in the field and office
  • Clean record from pre-employment background check (iCORI)
  • Reliable vehicle, valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Physical abilities necessary: Ability to sit; stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to lift up to 125 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While in the field, may be required to walk in rugged conditions, work in adverse weather conditions, stand up to eight hours or more at a time, and work from heights (ex., from staging, ladders, boom-lift, scaffolding, or on roofs of high buildings). Willingness to comply with safety procedures in office and on job sites. Must wear attire appropriate with performing assigned duties safely. ANSI-approved footwear necessary. Hard hat, safety vest and safety glasses are provided.
  • Must be legally authorized to work long term in the US
  • OSHA-10 certification
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office and AutoCAD)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must be able to pass random drug and alcohol tests.
