Facade Today is seeking a Building Engineer for a 700-unit high-rise in Washington, DC. This full-time, on-site role oversees maintenance, repairs, and safe, efficient operation of all building systems.

Responsibilities include HVAC, electrical, plumbing, preventive maintenance, and vendor coordination to ensure resident safety and comfort. The ideal candidate has 5–7 years in a similar environment, strong problem‑solving skills, and solid communication with residents and management.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–7 years in Building Engineer or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems in high-rise buildings.
• Relevant certifications such as HVAC, EPA, or building systems engineering preferred.
• Proven problem-solving abilities for complex building issues.
• Excellent communication with residents, vendors, and management.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance to prevent breakdowns and extend system life.
• Diagnose and repair issues in residential units and common areas.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and building codes.
• Monitor energy usage and identify efficiency improvements.
• Respond promptly to emergencies: outages and system failures.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Building Engineer to oversee the maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of a 700-unit high-rise apartment building. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all building systems and equipment function optimally, providing residents with a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained living environment. This role involves performing regular inspections, troubleshooting issues, and executing repairs across various systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

• System Operation & Maintenance: Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of the building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
• Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine preventive maintenance on all building systems to prevent breakdowns and ensure longevity.
• Repairs: Diagnose and repair issues in residential units and common areas, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building infrastructure.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure all building operations comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations, including building codes and environmental standards.
• Energy Management: Monitor and optimize energy usage throughout the building, making recommendations for improvements to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
• Emergency Response: Respond promptly to building emergencies, including system failures, power outages, and other urgent maintenance needs.
• Vendor Management: Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
• Resident Interaction: Address maintenance requests from residents promptly and professionally, ensuring high levels of satisfaction.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and safety checks.
• Leadership: Manage, train and lead team of maintenance team. Assist in hiring of new maintenance technicians.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Building Engineer or in a related role, preferably in a high-rise residential or commercial environment.
• Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems specific to high-rise buildings.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications such as HVAC, EPA, or building systems engineering are preferred.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex building system issues effectively and efficiently.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with residents, vendors, and management.

Physical Requirements:

• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), work in confined spaces, and climb ladders as required for maintenance tasks. Ability stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Availability:

• Availability: Must be available for on-call emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
