Job summary

Macomb Community College is seeking a skilled HVAC technician to repair and maintain college heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, including boilers, chillers, and related piping and ductwork.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, a valid high-pressure boiler operator's license, refrigeration repair training, and at least three years of relevant hands-on experience in heating and cooling systems.

Qualifications

• Documented training in refrigeration equipment repair and operation.
• Three years' experience repairing and installing high- and low-pressure heating boilers and cooling equipment.

• Maintain and repair college heating equipment including boilers, piping, pumps and valves.
• Maintain and repair college cooling equipment including chillers and associated piping and valves.
• Maintain and repair college ventilation equipment including air handlers, rooftop units and ductwork.

Job description

Primary responsibility for the repair and maintenance of College heating and cooling equipment. Performs specific tasks in and around the physical plants of the College as assigned.

• Maintains and repairs college heating equipment including Pressure Steam Boilers, Hot Water Boilers, and associated piping, pumps, valves etc.
• Maintains and repairs college cooling equipment including Water Cooled Chillers, Air Cooled DX Chillers, and associated piping, pumps, valves etc.
• Maintains and repairs college ventilation equipment including Indoor Air Handlers, Rooftop Outdoor air Handlers, Packaged HVAC Rooftop units and associated ductwork, louvers, dampers, actuators etc.

• Makes preliminary survey of work sites and makes estimates of needed materials, tools, equipment and personnel
• Performs Pipe Fitting, Brazing, Soldering, and mechanical fastening of piping systems related to HVAC
• Performs Various Sheet Metal functions including Bending, Cutting, and Joining various types of Air Duct systems
• Maintains and repairs Building Automation System (BAS) equipment including Direct Digital Controls (DDC), Pneumatic Controls
• Performs and assists in troubleshooting, calibration and repair of BAS with College staff, contractors, and program engineers
• Operates, maintains and uses a variety hand tools, and Pipe Fitting, Sheet Metal and Ventilation specialty tools
• Shall be able to read and understand physical plant blueprints, control drawings and schematics
• Assist in reviews of construction plans and specifications and makes recommendations for changes based on college standards, systems, and Plant Operation
• Creates and maintains reports as required to perform the functions of position and as directed by Chief Building Engineer
• Drives College vehicles as assigned
• Cleans areas as assigned after related jobs are completed
• Directs other such workers as may be assigned
• Performs related duties as assigned.

High school graduate or equivalent; must have a valid high pressure boiler operator's license and documented training in refrigeration equipment repair and operation.Three years' experience performing repair and installation work on various types of high- and low-pressure heating boilers, cooling equipment, subordinate control equipment including some experience installing, troubleshooting and repairing various types of refrigeration equipment.
