Job summary

St. Louis Community College is seeking a Stationary Engineer to maintain and repair power plant and HVAC equipment campus-wide, including the EMS when installed. You will conduct daily rounds, safety checks, and log sheets while ensuring reliable operations.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent with vocational steam power training, plus 3 years of relevant experience and a Stationary Engineer's license. On-call 24/7; safety-conscious and ready for extreme conditions.

Qualifications

  • Three years full-time experience in heat generation or air conditioning installation.
  • Must possess Stationary Engineer's license.
  • Knowledge of automated RVAC system and controllers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair all power plant equipment, including EMS systems when installed.
  • Repair HVAC units, boilers, pumps, chillers; service heating and cooling systems.
  • Operate EMS panels and related control gear; monitor safety and energy use.
  • Perform daily rounds and safety checks; complete logs and reports.
  • On-call availability 24/7; may work in extreme weather and hazardous conditions.

Job description

Performs duties necessary to maintain and repair all power plant equipment and HVAC equipment, including the automated campus energy management system (EMS) when installed; fabricates precision parts to replace unavailable parts; controls and maintains equipment on parking lot and walkway lights; completes daily and substation log sheets; makes daily rounds to check power center and conduct general safety checks.

  • Maintains and repairs all power plant equipment: repairs fire alarm, sprinkler and soft water system and electrical circuits as necessary; maintains and repairs the high voltage electrical network for inner campus.
  • Maintains and repairs heating, ventilation, ventilation fans, and cooling equipment: repairs air conditioning units, refrigeration, air compressors equipment, and/or boilers when needed; chemically treats hot water heating system, steam generator, chilled water cooling system, and swimming pool; repairs and maintains sump, condensate, manhole and fountain pumps; remodels heating, cooling and ventilation equipment; calibrates and repairs thermostats and air mixing boxes; makes decisions as to heating and cooling requirements for individual buildings; may also maintain dental lab hydrovac system.
  • May maintain and troubleshoot the automated campus energy management system variable frequency motor drives, individual EMS panels with integrated solid-state controllers; maintains and trouble-shoots electrical driver variable volume dual deck system with solid state controllers.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and additional vocational training in steam power plant equipment preferred.
  • Three (3) years full-time experience in either heat generation or air conditioning installation.
  • Must possess Stationary Engineer's license.
  • Knowledge of automated RVAC system and controllers with computer based operating systems and vocational training in this area preferred.
  • On call availability, 24/7
  • As needed: may work in extreme weather conditions and involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

Physical Requirements:

  • May require physical work: heavy lifting, pushing, pulling required of objects 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights up to 40'
  • Ability to stoop, squat and bend
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
