Provide advanced journey level skilled work and project management associated with DDC and pneumatic HVAC instrumentation and controls systems to ensure efficient and effective operation of buildings. Gather and record significant data used for retro-commissioning and the implementation of energy saving programs.

Responsibilities
- Perform commissioning activities on existing building HVAC, heating, and cooling systems. Develop and perform functional testing and calibration of building automation equipment. Utilize specialized test instruments to measure and verify data transmitted to the building automation system including airflow, temperature, humidity, and pressure. Repair or replace mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems as required.
- Assist in planning and executing Test Adjusting and Balancing projects including balancing airflow with a flow hood and performing pitot tube traverses of ductwork. Properly record air flow and equipment data and create accurate reports.
- Work with the other UT maintenance and energy groups to troubleshoot and resolve complex HVAC related building issues.
- Interface with campus faculty, staff, engineers, vendors, and contractors to resolve building systems problems.
- Collaborate with engineers, BAS analysts, and energy managers to optimize building automation system programming and sequences of operation.
- Use construction drawings, technical documents, and specifications to plan and execute projects and troubleshoot building issues correctly and efficiently.
- Compose, review, and process shop and project paperwork, including daily and final project summaries, timesheets, material requests, and work orders.
Required Qualifications
High school or GED. Five years of journey‑level experience with the installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of pneumatic and DDC instrumentation and control systems. Five years of experience in the maintenance, operation and repair of large commercial HVAC systems. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- More than the required described experience.
- Experience with computerized service request systems.
- Demonstrated excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proven ability to work with a team of multi‑crafted trades people.
- Three years of experience installing DDC systems.
- Five years of experience with test and balance procedures on air and water systems.
- Ability to properly use test instruments such as multimeters, current loop calibrators, thermal imaging cameras, manometers, and ultrasonic flow meters.
- Ability to make mechanical repairs such as replacement of valves, steam traps, and actuators.
- Ability to replace, repair, calibrate, and configure DDC field devices such as temperature and humidity transmitters, air flow stations, and differential pressure transmitters.
- Ability to perform high‑level troubleshooting diagnostics on complex HVAC systems.
- International Society of Automation Certified Controls Systems Technician (ISA CCST) Level 1 certification.
Salary Range
$58,066 + depending on qualifications

Environmental Demands

Additional Working Conditions
- Position designated as essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed.
- May require operating electronic devices for time reporting and work management.
- May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- May require personal protective equipment, physical examination, tuberculosis screening, or use of respirator.
- May drive University vehicles, subject to acceptable driver rating.
Work Shift
40 hours a week, five 8‑hour days, with schedule to be determined with supervisor. Some overtime, evening, weekends, and holidays possible.
