Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited apprenticeship or trade certification program in a relevant skilled trade.
  • Minimum of 5 years of practical experience working in a skilled trade.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach or train others, either through formal instruction or on-the-job mentoring.
  • Strong knowledge of safety standards and regulations applicable to skilled trades.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

About this position

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The skilled Trades Building Construction TechnologyInstructor plays a pivotal role in preparing the next generation of trades professionals by delivering comprehensive, hands-on training in various skilled trades disciplines. This position is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum that meets industry standards and equips students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for successful careers. The Building Construction Technology Instructorwill foster a safe and engaging learning environment that encourages student growth, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Collaboration with industry partners and continuous curriculum updates ensure that training remains relevant to evolving trade technologies and practices. Ultimately, the role aims to bridge the gap between education and industry demands, producing competent, confident, and job-ready skilled trades workers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

Instruction

  • Instructs program participants in trade skills using approved curriculum
  • Develops curriculum and supporting training materials, as needed
  • Coordinates hands-on training activities including on-site and community-based projects
  • Demonstrates proper use of tools and equipment use, with an emphasis on safety

Student Development and Placement

  • Assists with student recruitment, placement, and as directed and/or as required by program needs
  • Monitors, mentors, and coaches students
  • Fosters positive working relationships with and between funders, program partners, and other personnel
  • Participates in outreach and employer relationship development

Classroom Management

  • Performs various administrative and reporting functions, as required
  • Ensures proper use, storage, and security of tools, equipment, etc.
  • Adherence with all applicable safety protocols (OSHA 10)

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: HBI Executive Team, HBI Board of Trustees, and staff at all levels

External: Community channel partners, vendors, contractors and system(s) end users

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in vocational training, education, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with modern training technologies and e-learning platforms.
  • Previous experience working with diverse student populations and adult learners.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Usual office-type working conditions; routine physical conditions include walking, carrying, standing, hearing/listening, and sitting; nominal travel anticipated.
