Job summary

N/A is seeking an Inspector to enforce building codes and review construction projects in accordance with South Florida Building Code and local ordinances. The role reports to the Chief Structural Inspector and involves field inspections across new and existing structures.

The candidate must hold BCAIB certification or be a Florida-licensed architect/engineer, with HVHZ experience or the ability to pass HVHZ exams. Several career paths lead to licensure upgrades within two years.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited High School or GED equivalent.
• Certified by the state's Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB) as a Standard Inspector OR be a Florida Registered Architect / Florida Licensed Professional Engineer.
• Architect / Engineer Path: Florida Registered Architect or Licensed Professional Engineer in the structural discipline, with HVHZ experience or pass HVHZ exam.
• Standard Inspector Path: BCAIB-certified Standard Inspector in Structural with 5+ years in Florida (2 HVHZ years or pass HVHZ exam). Must acquire Unlimited GC license by exam within 2 years.
• Licensed Contractor Path: Licensed General Contractor with 5+ years of active structural experience in Florida (including HVHZ experience or pass HVHZ exam).
• Supervisory Construction Path: 5 years of structural construction experience, with 2 HVHZ years or pass HVHZ exam, and Unlimited GC license within 2 years.
• General Construction Path: 10 years of structural construction with 2 HVHZ years or pass HVHZ exam, and Unlimited GC license within 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Inspects construction projects to enforce the South Florida Building Code and related Town ordinances governing minimum standards and requirements of new construction, alterations, repairs and materials used.
• Inspects construction projects to ensure compliance with approved plans and construction and safety practices; examines plot plans, structural framing and general arrangement of building facilities for design and workmanship quality.
• Performs inspections of new and existing residences, businesses and other buildings for conformance with safety standards, codes and ordinances; issues inspection certificates for approved installation.
• Maintains all necessary records and reports on inspections.
• Confers with other inspectors and the Chief Structural Inspector on questions of departmental policies and other inspection problems.
• Confers with contractors, architects, engineers and others regarding construction codes and building plans.
• May review and pass upon plans for building construction and alterations.
