Job summary
Howard County Government is seeking a qualified inspector to perform detailed building code inspections across residential, commercial, and industrial sites. You will read plans, verify compliance with ADA and accessibility codes, and document results electronically for enforcement and potential legal actions.
Requires a High School Diploma or GED with five years of related experience; ICC certification is preferred.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED with five years of related experience or equivalent.
- Preference for ICC Inspector certification IBC/IRC and related construction codes knowledge.
- Proficiency with computer systems, Windows, Excel, and report writing.
Responsibilities
- Inspect exterior and interior areas of residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings during and after construction.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and installation methods.
- Electronically document inspection results using modern computer software; maintain records and prepare reports.
- Interpret building codes and provide guidance to contractors, engineers, architects, and property owners.
