Job summary

Howard County Government is seeking an experienced Inspector to perform field inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with County building codes, ADA and accessibility standards. The role includes interpreting plans, documenting findings, and preparing reports for enforcement actions.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED with five years of related experience; ICC Inspector certification (IBC/IRC) is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required with five years of related experience.
• ICC Inspector certification in IBC/IRC preferred.
• Proficiency with computer-based documentation and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Inspect exterior and interior areas of buildings during and after construction.
• Verify compliance with building codes, ADA, and accessibility standards.
• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Prepare inspection reports and maintain case histories.
• Testify in court as required.
