Job summary

Medxcel is seeking a Building Maintenance professional in Birmingham, AL, at St. Vincent's Hospital. The role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, upgrading and calibrating complex control systems in a hospital setting, with the ability to work across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic domains.

You will write and debug Siemens/Trane code with minimal vendor guidance. The position is full-time with a day shift.

Responsibilities

How you’ll make an impact in this role

  • Diagnoses, repairs, upgrades, and calibrates complex electronic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic control systems, with the specific ability to write, edit, and debug Siemens and Trane program code with minimal vendor guidance.
  • Conducts scheduled preventive maintenance and diagnostics—including testing damper motors, checking wiring integrity, reviewing control sequences, and replacing faulty sensors—in accordance with hospital and industry standards.
  • Analyzes system requirements, blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to troubleshoot defects, handle overrides, resolve work orders, and ensure compliance with building, code, and safety standards.
  • Performs system checkouts and leads automation system startups and commissioning for new or retrofitted building controls alongside in-house staff, contractors, vendors, and consulting engineers.
  • Provides supervisory leadership to lower-level technicians and contractors, stands in for the Facilities Manager when absent, trains employees on fire and life safety systems, and maintains technical proficiency through continuous self-study.

What minimum requirements you’ll need

Must Have One Or More Of The Following

  • Graduate of trade school
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

And One Or More Of The Following

  • Relevant License and 3 years’ experience
  • 5 years of relevant experience in lieu of license
  • Other equivalent combination of relevant education or experience
