Lingo Professional is recruiting experienced Building Automation Controls Technicians / Engineers for a well-established, family-owned commercial HVAC and building systems organization serving customers throughout Virginia.
This is a field-based position for someone who understands both Building Automation Systems (BAS) and commercial HVAC operation. You don't need to be the technician rebuilding a chiller or replacing a compressor--but you do need to understand how HVAC equipment operates so you can determine whether a customer's problem originates with the mechanical equipment, electrical system or building controls.
You’ll work with schools, colleges, healthcare facilities, municipal buildings, fire stations, courthouses and other commercial facilities to troubleshoot, service and optimize their building automation systems.
Troubleshoot and service Building Automation Systems and HVAC controls
Diagnose whether system issues originate with the controls, electrical components or mechanical HVAC equipment
Connect to customer BAS systems using a laptop to remotely diagnose alarms and system problems
Troubleshoot controllers, sensors, actuators, dampers and other field devices
Work with graphical interfaces, sequences of operation and control programming to identify system issues
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on building automation and control systems
Run and verify sequences of operation to ensure systems are functioning properly
Read control drawings, electrical schematics and system documentation
Commission and verify controls following service, repairs or system changes
Work directly with customers and facility personnel to explain issues and recommended solutions
Coordinate with HVAC service technicians and other technical resources when mechanical repairs are required
Maintain accurate service documentation
Participate in ongoing technical and safety training
Experience with Building Automation Systems, HVAC controls or DDC controls
Working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and equipment
Ability to troubleshoot across controls, electrical and mechanical systems to identify the true source of a problem
Experience with BAS platforms such as Honeywell, Trane, Johnson Controls, Siemens or similar systems
Ability to read control drawings, schematics and sequences of operation
Comfortable using computers and software as a primary diagnostic tool
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
Resourceful and comfortable working independently in the field
Strong communication and customer service skills

Travel per diem and company-paid hotel accommodations when overnight travel is required
This is a field-based position. Technicians travel directly to customer locations and are not required to report to the office every day.
Most travel is within Virginia, typically ranging from approximately 20-60 miles during the workday, with longer trips as customer needs require. Approximately 75% of the time, you’ll return home the same day. When overnight travel is necessary, hotel accommodations are arranged and paid by the company, along with a $70 daily meal per diem.
This is an opportunity to join a company that believes strongly in developing technical talent rather than leaving technicians to figure everything out alone.
You’ll have access to experienced technical resources and a help desk when you’re working through a difficult problem. The company provides regular technical training, safety training, apprenticeship opportunities and continuing education while encouraging technicians to continue expanding both their HVAC and building automation expertise.
If you’re technically curious, enjoy figuring out how systems work and want an environment where you can continue developing your skills, we’d like to talk with you.
