Description

SUMMARY: Incumbents perform manual tasks involving custodial care, cleaning, and minor maintenance of City buildings. They use proper methods, materials, and equipment to maintain buildings and equipment in a neat and sanitary condition.

Examples of Duties

1. Exhibits a service orientation toward customers and maintains productive working relationships.
2. Participates in achieving organizational, departmental, and workgroup goals.
3. Cleans, dusts, and polishes furniture, equipment, fixtures, surfaces, walls, wood paneling, window sills, trim, doors, cabinets, vents, and other surfaces.
4. Maintains cleanliness of bathrooms, kitchens, and common areas, including disinfecting and replenishing supplies.
5. Operates cleaning equipment such as vacuums, mops, and carpet cleaners.
6. Maintains exterior areas around buildings, including sweeping, hosing down sidewalks, and picking up debris.
7. Performs general maintenance tasks like checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, troubleshooting basic plumbing or electrical issues, and installing fixtures.
8. Performs building security tasks, including locking/unlocking and turning off unused equipment.
9. Receives and processes various reports, logs, and manuals.
10. Monitors inventory levels of supplies and initiates requests for replacements.
11. Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
12. Performs other similar duties as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge of: Basic maintenance principles, tools, safety practices, and proper use of cleaning chemicals.

Skills in: Manual labor, operating tools and equipment, performing routine maintenance, and using computers.

Abilities to: Perform custodial activities, follow instructions, provide quality service, work in teams, and communicate effectively.

Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience.

Licenses

Valid Ohio commercial driver license required at hire and maintained thereafter.
