Job summary

AXIS Capital is hiring an Underwriter – Builder’s Risk to support Builder’s Risk portfolio growth. The role focuses on underwriting new and renewal business, developing broker and customer relationships, and building technical underwriting expertise within the Construction team.

The position can be based out of Midwest or West Coast offices. The candidate will underwrite within governance, analyze opportunities, and collaborate across AXIS to meet clients’ needs.

Qualifications

• 3–10 years of Builder’s Risk, Property, or Commercial Insurance underwriting experience.
• Curiosity and desire to learn.
• Ability to analyze and underwrite a range of commercial property risks.
• Solid understanding of Builder's Risk coverage, exposure analysis, pricing principles, and market dynamics.
• Able to communicate underwriting concepts to audiences of varying experience.
• Independently manage routine underwriting responsibilities while collaborating in a team.
• Capable of handling time constraints for quoting new and renewal business.

Responsibilities

• Develop Builder's Risk expertise while building broker and customer relationships and contributing to underwriting, retention, and growth across the portfolio.
• Analyze and qualify opportunities based on the organization’s appetite and communicate it effectively.
• Underwrite within the underwriting governance framework.
• Evaluate and negotiate new and renewal business within delegated authority.
• Develop and maintain relationships with broker partners to support retention and growth.
• Support business development through broker interactions and growth opportunities in assigned accounts.
• Manage underwriting responsibilities to contribute to portfolio performance.
• Participate in industry functions to build market knowledge and represent AXIS professionally.
• Help facilitate broker/customer meetings to strengthen relationships and identify opportunities.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the organization to meet customers’ needs.
