Job summary

Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. is seeking a Budget Specialist responsible for developing, monitoring, and analyzing program, grant, and organizational budgets.

This role partners with program leadership, finance staff, and business development to prepare grant budgets, contract budgets, budget modifications, funding proposals, financial reports, and budget narratives. The ideal candidate will have nonprofit budgeting, grant financial management, government funding, and strong analytical skills,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of budgeting, financial analysis, grant budgeting, or grant management in nonprofit or human services preferred.
  • Experience developing and managing grant and contract budgets including GAAP informed reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite; ability to analyze complex financial information.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, monitor, and analyze program, grant, and organizational budgets.
  • Prepare grant budgets, contract budgets, budget modifications, and funding proposals.
  • Support funding opportunities with accurate cost projections and narratives.
  • Ensure compliance with grant and contract requirements and report financials clearly.

Status: Full-Time Hourly

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Salary: $63,500

Summary of the Position: Budget Specialist is responsible for developing, monitoring, and analyzing program, grant, and organizational budgets. This position partners with program leadership, finance staff, and business development personnel to prepare grant budgets, contract budgets, budget modifications, funding proposals, financial reports, and budget narratives. The Budget Specialist will support funding opportunities by developing accurate cost projections and ensuring compliance with grant and contract requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in non-profit budgeting, grant financial management, government funding, and program budget development. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, grant budgeting, or grant management, preferably in a non-profit or human services environment.
  • May consider a combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience developing and managing grant and contract budgets.
  • Experience working with federal, state, local government, and/or foundation funder programs preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to analyze complex financial information and prepare clear financial reports.
  • Experience preparing budget narratives and responding to funding opportunities preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Candidates may be asked to provide examples of budget reports, budget narratives, grant budgets, or other work products that demonstrates relevant budgeting and financial analysis experience, with confidential information redacted.
