Who You Are:
We are seeking a candidate with a strong positive attitude toward customer service to act as a Sous Chef. This person will have a genuine interest in working with older adults and be able to engage, motivate, and support both residents and fellow team members. Essential Functions:
- Prepares and assists with overseeing the preparation of appropriate quantities of quality food to ensure meals are completed and served according to established schedules.
- Works closely with the Executive Sous Chef to maintain established standards for food quality, consistency, presentation, portion control, and resident satisfaction.
- Follows established recipes, production procedures, portion standards, and culinary practices to ensure consistent food quality.
- Ensures assigned kitchen preparation and food production responsibilities are completed accurately and timely.
- Assists the Executive Sous Chef with the orientation, training, coaching, and development of cooks, prep cooks, utility staff, and other assigned culinary associates.
- Assists with maintaining and enforcing established food safety, sanitation, equipment operation, and OSHA safety standards within the kitchen.
- Works collaboratively with the Executive Sous Chef in developing menu items, recipes, and new culinary ideas.
- Communicates with front-of-house staff regarding resident feedback and promptly reports food quality, service, or resident satisfaction concerns to the Executive Sous Chef
- Provides day-to-day direction to assigned culinary staff and promptly reports employee performance, conduct, or disciplinary concerns to the Executive Sous Chef.
- Assists the Executive Sous Chef with evaluating the performance of cooks, prep cooks, utility staff, and other assigned culinary associates.
- Assists the Executive Sous Chef with monthly inventory, monitoring stock levels, and identifying food products and supplies needed to support kitchen operations.
- Participates in and assists with culinary staff training and in-service programs as directed by the Executive Sous Chef.
- Maintains assigned work areas in accordance with established OSHA, safety, sanitation, and departmental standards.
- Communicates effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with residents, associates, management, and other departments.
- Demonstrates the community hospitality promises toward residents, families, associates, and vendors.
- Performs assigned duties in accordance with department and community policies, procedures, and established standards.
- In the absence of the Executive Sous Chef, assists with overseeing daily kitchen operations and provides appropriate direction to culinary staff to maintain continuity of food production and service.
- Assists with critical operating issues, staffing needs, and emergency situations as directed by the Executive Sous Chef or other authorized leadership.
- Performs other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as may be required to meet emergency situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary training preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of culinary experience required; supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience working with cooks, prep cooks, and kitchen staff preferred.
- Must be able to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
