Job summary

Bronson Battle Creek Hospital seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse to support the General Medical Unit on a PRN/Variable shift. Under RN supervision, you will deliver prescribed nursing care and assist with patient needs in a fast-paced inpatient setting.

The role requires LPN licensure in Michigan, BLS, and strong communication. You will collect data, administer medications, document care, and participate in discharge planning, with a focus on compassionate, team-based care.

Qualifications

  • > High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and successful completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.
  • - Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan.
  • - BLS certification by the end of the core orientation period.
  • - Experience in a health care delivery setting preferred.
  • - Ability to demonstrate specific clinical competencies within a general orientation period of approximately 3 months.
  • - Ability to move and respond quickly to emergency situations.
  • - Ability to input and retrieve data from computerized systems.
  • - Ability to rotate within the service line and related service areas.
  • - Effective communication skills—clear, grammatically correct speech and writing; comforting and positive demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • - Manage IV fluids and medication administration, noting time and amount on patient charts.
  • - Dress wounds, administer enemas and douches, and apply compresses, ice bags, or hot water bottles.
  • - Assist with bathing, dressing, turning, walking, and mobility of patients.
  • - Collect samples (urine, blood, sputum) for testing.
  • - Prepare or examine food trays for prescribed diets and feed patients.
  • - Wash and dress bodies of deceased persons.
  • - Assist in delivery, care, and feeding of infants.
  • - Assemble and use equipment such as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen suppliers.
  • - Sanitize equipment and supplies and inventory and requisition supplies using computerized systems.
  • - Provide teaching materials to patients based on identified needs and document teaching sessions completely.
  • - Assist with discharge planning, including appointments for follow‑up care and rechecks, following ProHealth guidelines.
  • - Participate effectively as a member of the health care team and precept new employees or students as required.
