Job summary

Rocky Mountain Public Media is seeking a Broadcast Technology Specialist to support daily systems across broadcast and digital platforms in Greeley, CO. The role focuses on automation, studio systems, distribution, streaming, and on‑call technical support, working with the Director of Broadcast & Engineering to maintain reliable operations.

The ideal candidate has a technical background in broadcast operations and is able to learn specialized systems quickly, with training provided.

Qualifications

• Experience with broadcast operations or related technical fields; relevant education may substitute for professional broadcast experience.
• Familiarity with broadcast automation systems; WideOrbit Automation preferred; other automation platforms welcomed.
• Knowledge of professional audio systems, signal flow, digital audio, cabling, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with Telos/Axia AoIP systems; other AoIP or audio-routing platforms may be considered equivalent.
• Basic understanding of computer systems and IP networking with ability to troubleshoot routine connectivity issues.

The Broadcast Technology Specialist supports the daily technical and operational systems that keep KUNC and The Colorado Sound on the air and available across broadcast and digital platforms.

This position primarily works with broadcast automation, studio systems, program distribution, audio content, and streaming technology, while also providing hands‑on technical support across the organization. Working with the Director of Broadcast & Engineering, the position helps maintain reliable broadcast operations, responds to technical problems, and supports the continued development of station technology.

The ideal candidate may bring professional broadcast experience or a strong technical foundation, along with the ability to quickly learn specialized broadcast systems. Training and mentorship will be provided as appropriate

Broadcast Automation & Operations

• Support the operation, integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of broadcast automation systems and associated workflows.
• Work with Programming, Traffic, News, Development, and other teams to ensure schedules, content, and automation systems operate reliably.
• Support traffic-system integration, schedule changes, program exceptions, metadata, and other systems involved in getting content to air.
• Identify and resolve automation and playback problems and help improve operational workflows.
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot studio equipment, audio routing, AoIP systems, streaming systems, and related broadcast technology.
• Provide hands‑on technical support for studios, production facilities, and live or special‑event operations.
• Assist with equipment installation, cabling, configuration, preventative maintenance, system upgrades, and technical projects.
• Assist the Director and other broadcast engineers with transmission facilities, remote sites, and field response as needed.

Content & Program Distribution

• Administer broadcast content libraries, including programs, promos, podcasts, underwriting and pledge content, and other material required for air.
• Acquire, organize, prepare, and verify programming from PRSS, PRX, and other content providers.
• Maintain program subscriptions, distribution workflows, schedules, and related documentation.
• Coordinate with station departments to ensure required content is available, current, and properly scheduled.

Technical Support, Compliance & On-Call

• Provide basic troubleshooting of computers, networks, software, and IP-connected broadcast systems, coordinating with IT support providers when appropriate.
• Assist with EAS, transmitter logs, SoundExchange reporting, Public Inspection File materials, and other operational or regulatory documentation.
• Maintain appropriate technical and operational documentation.
• Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation and help coordinate responses to broadcast, streaming, studio, and technology issues.

Qualifications

• Experience with broadcast operations, audio technology, broadcast engineering, information technology, electronics, networking, or a related technical field. Relevant education, training, or demonstrated hands‑on experience may substitute for professional broadcast experience.
• Familiarity with broadcast automation systems and workflows. Experience with WideOrbit Automation is preferred; experience with comparable automation platforms is welcome.
• Familiarity with professional audio systems, signal flow, digital audio, cabling, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with Telos/Axia AoIP systems is preferred; experience with other AoIP, digital console, or audio‑routing platforms may be considered equivalent.
• Basic understanding of computer systems and IP networking, with the ability to troubleshoot routine connectivity and technology problems.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to learn unfamiliar systems and technologies.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both technical and non‑technical staff.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to station facilities and remote sites throughout Colorado.
• Ability to participate in scheduled on‑call and occasional after‑hours work following appropriate training.

Final compensation is based on qualifications, relevant experience, skillset, and internal equity. While we've shared the full salary range for transparency, most offers typically fall near the midpoint of the salary range.

This is a hands‑on position working across office, studio, technical, and field environments. Some work may occur at transmitter and remote facilities, including rural and mountainous locations. Occasional evening, weekend, and emergency work may be required to support continuous broadcast operations.

The position requires the ability to work around technical equipment, perform equipment installation and cabling, travel to station facilities, and lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
