Job summary

KMBC-TV / KCWE-TV, the ABC and CW affiliates in Kansas City, MO, are seeking a Master Control Operator to oversee the equipment that delivers our on-air broadcasts. You will monitor multiple channels, build playlists, ensure regulatory compliance, and verify on-air quality while ingesting and timing commercials and programs.

You must be willing to work all shifts and weekends and have at least 1+ year of computer/web application experience; training is provided for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of computer, email, software and web applications.
  • Prior exposure to television station operations and newscast production.
  • Experience with master control activities; training may be offered for qualified candidates.
  • Knowledge of graphics systems for on-air branding and messaging.
  • Higher education in technology or related field will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate live and recorded programming for broadcast.
  • Maintain on-air operation including running commercials and local programming.
  • Monitor multiple channels for regulatory compliance and signal integrity.
  • Operate broadcast automation equipment.
  • Follow FCC monitoring and EAS procedures.
  • Observe transmitters and take readings and maintain logs.
  • Edit and append playlists; acquire content from distributors.
  • Report equipment issues and transmission discrepancies.
