Position Overview

As a Broadband Specialist I (Field Technician), you will focus on new installations of cable television and broadband services. You will drive a company van to customer homes, representing Mediacom daily, and perform tasks such as installation, changes of service, additional outlet installation, disconnection of service, payment collection, and special customer requests.

Position Responsibilities

• Make customer drop installations (exterior and interior) complete from tap to antenna terminals in single or multiple dwellings, including pre‑wired units.
• Perform new connects, reconnects, non‑pay disconnects, add outlets, install and/or remove converters, and perform service upgrades or downgrades.
• Analyze picture quality and judge acceptability of delivered picture after installation.
• Use hand tools, connectors, fasteners, and wiring.
• Operate CATV hand and power tools in performing job duties.
• Complete required paperwork as prescribed by system management.
• Read signal levels using a field strength meter; adjust levels during installation problems; install tap‑off devices and connectors on various drops.
• Climb poles with proper equipment (safety belt, safety strap, climbers), ladders, or other structures as needed.
• Lift and carry loads up to 100 lbs.; work within confined spaces such as crawl spaces.
• Use, store, and maintain a VOM or DMM to check for open or short circuits, AC and DC voltages.
• Read general drop system layouts from blueprints.
• Inform customers of FCC rules and company policies that affect them.
• Drive company vehicles and use bucket trucks responsibly; maintain proper vehicle upkeep.
• Generate additional company revenue through effective sales techniques and by informing customers about product options, promotions, and campaigns.
• Perform other duties, such as cleanup, salvage of wrecked materials, and general assistance to coworkers as directed.
• Carry out installations and changes of service while complying with applicable codes, company procedures, and safe work practices to ensure an outstanding customer experience.
