Position Overview
As a Broadband Specialist I (Field Technician), you will focus primarily on new installations of cable television and broadband services. You’ll drive a company van, go into customer homes, and represent Mediacom to our customers. Your duties include installation, service changes, outlet installation, disconnection of service, payment collection, and special installation requests.

Position Responsibilities
- Install customer drop lines (exterior and interior) from tap to antenna terminals on both single and multi‑unit dwellings, including pre‑wired units
- Execute new connects, reconnects, requested and non‑pay disconnects; add outlets; install and/or remove converters; perform upgrades and downgrades of service
- Analyze picture quality and judge acceptability of picture delivered after installation
- Use hand tools, connectors, fasteners, and wire per standard procedures
- Operate standard CATV hand and power tools
- Complete appropriate paperwork as prescribed by system management
- Read signal levels with a field strength meter, adjust levels, install tap‑off devices, and ensure proper clearances
- Climb poles with safety equipment, ladders, or other structures as needed
- Lift and carry up to 100 lb loads, including line ladders, within confined spaces such as crawl spaces
- Operate, store, and maintain a VOM or DMM to identify open or short circuits and to measure AC and DC voltages
- Interpret drop system layouts from blueprints
- Inform customers of FCC rules and company policies as they pertain to customers
- Drive company vehicles and maintain proper vehicle upkeep and maintenance; use bucket truck as required
- Generate additional revenue through sales techniques and promotion of product options, campaigns, and promotions
- Perform other duties such as cleanup, salvage of wrecked materials, and general assistance to other employees as directed
- Adhere to applicable codes, guidelines, company procedures, and safe work practices while delivering an outstanding customer experience
Position Requirements
- No prior experience required
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required
- General mechanical and consumer device knowledge
- Ability to interact and communicate with customers and coworkers
- Ability to work in high or tight spaces
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and at various heights
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
Physical Requirements
- Frequent handling of heavy objects (approx. 50–100 lb) and heavy hand tools
