Job summary

Heart of Los Angeles is seeking a Bridges Tutor to support youth ages 10–18 with school assignments and projects, providing academic guidance and resources to help students succeed.

The role focuses on reading, math, and science comprehension, with weekly enrichment classes and ongoing homework support. The position is part-time, with flexible evenings during the school year.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a college degree with college-level English and Math coursework (B or higher).
• Experience mentoring or tutoring youth preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate small groups and/or one-on-one reading, math or science comprehension sessions for students struggling in those subjects when necessary.
• Plan and teach an academic enrichment class once a week.
• Check students' homework to ensure they have completed their assignments adequately.
• Be cooperative with managing students and be prepared at all times to work diligently for the betterment of Heart of Los Angeles’ youth.
• Be punctual and communicate any concerns or questions to the Bridges Staff.
• Create and foster a positive academic/career-enriching environment for all youth (grades 6th-12th).
• Support Heart of Los Angeles in all areas of after-school programming.
• Develop and implement academic assignments for students with low academic performance in order to enhance their learning and interest in the subject.
• Gain and maintain knowledge of current educational issues/trends.

Employees must accurately record all time worked and follow Heart of LA’s timekeeping and overtime-authorization procedures.SCHEDULE AND PROGRAM AVAILABILITYThis position requires availability to support Heart of LA programming and organizational needs. Regular work includes later hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The position may also require occasional schedule adjustments, evenings, or weekends based on program activities, events, participant needs, and organizational priorities.
