Job summary

Velociti Services seeks Bridge Tenders to operate bridges, canal locks, and lighthouses, ensuring safe marine passages and courteous openings for all traffic. You may supervise operations and must read FDOT/USCG manuals, maintain accurate logs, and communicate on VHF radios.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, be 18+, with a valid driver’s license, and demonstrate exceptional safety awareness, integrity, and a customer-service mindset.

Responsibilities

• Operate and tend bridges, canal locks, and lighthouses to permit marine passage.
• Provide safe, courteous openings for marine traffic, vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.
• Read and follow FDOT and U.S. Coast Guard manuals, rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Maintain logs and records per FDOT procedures in correct, legible English.
• Communicate effectively on the VHF marine radio.
• Check bridges for boat traffic and ensure clearance before openings.
• Stop traffic and lower gates prior to moving bridges; raise for water passage.
• Write and submit maintenance work requisitions and report incidents to supervisor.
