County of Volusia is seeking a part-time Bridgetender for the Road & Bridge Division to operate and maintain a draw bridge, ensuring safe passage of water traffic under United States Coast Guard regulations and Florida statutes.

The candidate must be able to work midnight to 8:00 am with rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, complete bridge logs, and communicate via VHF Marine radio. Swimming and climbing bridge stairs and ladders are required.

Formación

• Completion of the 8th grade.
• Preferred: bridge tending experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.

Responsabilidades

• Maintain lookout for boats and operate bridge per signals and regulations.
• Inspect mechanical and electrical devices to ensure proper functioning.
• Summon assistance for mechanical repairs as needed.
• Turn bridge lights on/off and replace fuses as required.
• Maintain logs and reports of bridge openings and activities.
• Respond to emergency situations and perform other duties as assigned.

The County of Volusia is seeking a part-time Bridgetender for the Road & Bridge Division. This position will be responsible for operating and maintaining a draw bridge to ensure the safe passage of water traffic. The candidate must be able to operate a drawbridge properly and safely in accordance to the regulations of the United States Coast Guard and with the State of Florida statutes. Candidate must be able to complete bridge logs, maintain daily reports and communicate with a Very High Frequency (VHF) Marine radio. The candidate must be able to swim, climb bridge stairs and a ladder.

NOTE: This position requires the ability to work from midnight to 8:00 am with rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

• Maintains a lookout for boats and operates bridge in response to signals, in accordance with established rules and regulations.
• Inspects mechanical and electrical devices on the bridge to see that they are in working order.
• Summons assistance in case mechanical repairs are necessary.
• Turns bridge lights on and off at proper times and sees that burned out lights and fuses are replaced.
• Performs custodial work about the bridge such as sweeping walks.
• Maintains records of bridge openings and activities.
• May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
• Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
• Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
• Responds to emergency situations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Completion of the 8th grade. The preferred candidate will have bridge tending experience.

ADA REQUIREMENTS: Physical Demands: Ability to lift, pull and push up to 15 lbs. Ability to see, hear, pull, push, grasp, handle, climb. Visual acuity (peripheral vision, depth perception) to operate motorized vehicles.

Environmental Demands: Inside work. Exposure to fumes, odors.

Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend operational instructions, safety instructions, memos, procedures and policies. Ability to write simple sentences relaying information.
