Farnsworth Group, Inc. is seeking a Structural Bridge Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. The role offers hands-on work with experienced structural engineers on bridge and structure projects, including analysis, design, and field assessments in Illinois.

You’ll develop load calculations, prepare detailed calculations, and draft plans using MicroStation or AutoCAD, under project managers. Ideal candidates are pursuing ABET-accredited civil engineering with a structural focus and have basic

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited Civil Engineering program, with a concentration in structural engineering.
• Computer proficiency with Word and Excel
• MicroStation and/or AutoCAD experience preferred
• Understanding of structural engineering principles, building codes, and design standards
• Valid Driver’s License
• Housing, relocation, and transportation assistance are not available for this position.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis of bridge and infrastructure project elements
• Develop load calculations and structural design computations for project components
• Prepare organized, detailed structural calculations and technical documentation
• Design and draft structural elements, details, and connection designs
• Develop plans and specifications using MicroStation software
• Work under the guidance of Project Managers and Project Engineers
• Participate in coordination meetings with multidisciplinary project teams
• Assist with field inspection and condition assessment of bridges and other structures.
