Job summary

Farnsworth Group, Inc. is seeking a Structural Bridge Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in Illinois. You will work with experienced structural engineers on bridges and structures, performing analysis, drafting, and documentation to support project teams.

The role emphasizes hands-on experience with design computations, field inspection support, and collaboration in a multidisciplinary environment. Hybrid work opportunities and professional development benefits accompany the position.

Qualifications

Pursuing an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering degree with a structural focus.
Proficient with Word and Excel.
MicroStation and/or AutoCAD experience preferred.
Understanding of structural engineering principles, building codes, and design standards.
Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

Perform structural analysis of bridge and infrastructure project elements.
Develop load calculations and structural design computations for project components.
Prepare organized, detailed structural calculations and technical documentation.
Design and draft structural elements, details, and connection designs.
Develop plans and specifications using MicroStation software.
Work under the guidance of Project Managers and Project Engineers.
Participate in coordination meetings with multidisciplinary project teams.
Assist with field inspection and condition assessment of bridges and other structures.
