Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Bridge Engineer 5 to support the Bridge Preservation Office and statewide Bridge Scour Program. You will conduct federally mandated scour inspections, develop action plans, and collaborate with hydraulic consultants to ensure bridge safety and reliability across the state highway system.

The role requires a PE license in WA (or eligibility within 6 months), strong leadership for bridge inspections, and travel across the state.

Qualifications

• Civil Engineering degree required.
• Current registration as a Professional Engineer in Washington State, or eligible within 6 months.
• Working knowledge of SNBI scour coding and Scour Plans of Action.
• Familiarity with scour assessments and NBIS.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Growth mindset and collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Bridge Scour Program and develop Scour Plans of Action.
• Develop lists of bridges requiring inspections and surveys.
• Review underwater and fathometric reports for scour susceptibility.
• Design scour repairs with HQ Hydraulics and prepare drawings.
• Maintain scour databases and generate status reports.
• Ensure NBIS-compliant bridge files and team protocols.
• Lead bridge inspection teams and operate UBIT.
• Provide scour-related training to local agencies.
