Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) seeks a Bridge Engineer 5 to lead the statewide Bridge Scour Program within the Bridge Preservation Office. This role requires a registered Professional Engineer and specializing knowledge in scour to support NBIS-compliant inspections and repairs.

You will travel across the state, mentor staff, and coordinate with hydraulic engineers to deliver scour projects and training to local agencies and colleagues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
• Current registration as a Professional Engineer in Washington State, or ability to obtain WA registration through comity within 6 months.
• Working knowledge of SNBI scour-related coding and Scour Plans of Action.
• Experience with NBIS and scour assessment processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Bridge Scour Program by performing scour assessments and developing, maintaining, and updating Scour Plans of Action.
• Develop lists of bridges requiring scour inspections, repairs, fathometric surveys, and underwater inspections.
• Review underwater inspection and fathometric reports to evaluate bridges for scour susceptibility.
• Design scour repairs in collaboration with HQ Hydraulics and prepare detailed drawings.
• Maintain scour databases and generate status reports for NBIS compliance.
• Lead bridge inspection teams as a Lead Inspector and prepare inspection reports.
