Job summary

VDOT is seeking a skilled bridge and structural maintenance worker to repair, maintain and replace bridges and structures in Manassas, VA, following safety standards, VDOT specs and equipment procedures.

You will perform carpentry, welding and concrete finishing, remove/install structural components, and participate in emergency operations such as temporary bridges, snow removal, and traffic control. A CDL/DOT card will be required within 11 months, with strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations to measure and lay out constructed elements on bridges and culverts.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools.
• Ability to work at heights, over and, or in water, in heavy traffic and under other adverse conditions.
• Knowledge of highway and bridge maintenance methods, equipment, materials and safety practices.
• Safety shoes required.
• Skill in carpentry, concrete forming and finishing, and welding.
• Skill in the operation and use of light and medium-duty equipment, as well as in the use of hand and power tools.
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled tasks to include carpentry, welding and concrete finishing on bridges and structures.
• Remove and install structural components to erect, replace or demolish structures.
• Place temporary bridges and operate equipment for snow and ice removal or other emergency operations.
• Apply in-stream and environmental protection measures during maintenance and construction activities.
• Operate light and medium-duty highway equipment for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Maintain safety rules, regulate detours, and ensure clean, orderly worksite per OSHA and MUTCD.
